I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret. Even though I write about fan art and community aspects of gaming, I’m not into the whole “art” thing. I’ll never be one of those people that can go into a gallery, stare at a piece for hours, and try to interpret what it means.

In my opinion, sometimes the best art can also be the simplest. For example, IdleScV just got a Wacom tablet, and normally you would open up a complicated painting program to start creating. However, his rendition of Veigar looks like it was made in MS Paint. He overlaps lines and squiggles to form an accurate portrait of the mini man in blue. I look forward to seeing his future LoL drawings!

Fan art comes in many shapes and sizes. Some people create giant figurines and portraits, while others, like 7guineapig7, like to make theirs just a bit tinier. Chibi is an anime term used to describe child-like characters with oversized heads and larger eyes.

7guineapig7 created this painstaking chibi recreation of Sewn Chaos Orianna, which is one of my favorite skins. Some of the details on the actual skin that people find quite creepy are positively adorable on the chibi. In particular, the stitches look less horrifying. If you like this art style, check out their Ashe and Lux chibis!

Amumu never thought I’d pick him (again!), so I’m here to prove him wrong. Redditor and Deviantartist deadmyth has been creating League of Legends figurines for 2 years now. His experience with toys dates back to 2008, though. Check out the Reddit thread he created for all the details on how he creates them!

While the legality of selling fan art is questionable, deadmyth does take commissions, as well as sells some premade crafts. He offers a variety of price points and art types, ranging from the figurines to acrylic paintings. The detailing on each is pretty incredible. For example, he created a mounted Caitlyn figurine that has the ground, a cupcake, and the kneeling champion ready to fire her weapon. Another figurine, Purple Caster Minion, has a fabric outfit and can be seen holding what looks like a really tiny book!

Note to deadmyth: Call me when you can do Panda Teemo!

Community Spotlight: A Different Kind of Homepage

When you log into League of Legends, there are certain things you expect from the “homepage” screen of the client. You can see who is online, look at your balance, and check the latest news. Redditor GaduBear’s friend has a different perspective of this scene, though.

In his humorous MS Paint version, “League of Lagoons” has an amazing picture of Ryze, a pile of poop for his RP balance, and a Get Angry button instead of a Play button. In addition to those, he reminds himself to enable the language filter before going to ELO Hell, and chooses to ignore the text underneath the Summoner Spotlight. Check out the image above for more interesting things in the drawing. What would your custom homepage look like?

Can there ever be enough Teemo skins? If you haven’t seen the upcoming Panda Teemo skin, you should check it out. He just gets more adorable with each new offering!

This post is about fan art, though, and Genesaurus has created a skin to fit along the lines of the Jurassic theme that Riot has going on with Cho’Gath and Kog’Maw. While not a set of bones fit for a museum, Jurassic Teemo makes up for it with an amazing dinosaur costume. What kind of mushroom alternatives could he possibly lay down? I think dinosaur footprints would be cute!

I’ve been neglecting fan art lately, so I’m going to try to pepper them in more frequently! Deviantartist xiseanhirosex created this adorable drawing, titled “I’ll Protect You“, of Amumu holding Annie. While the art style is quite simple, you can tell that Annie is scared or sad, and seeking comfort from a friend. Too precious!

On another note, have you been reading the sale announcements that come out on Mondays and Thursdays? They’re hilarious! Written from the perspectives of Corporate Mundo and Brolaf, some of the sale reasons have been a corporate retreat, a computer virus, and even an animal house-style frat party!

Easter has come and gone, but Cottontail Teemo and Bunnygirl Riven live on in our hearts forever! Deviantartist zhetenghui created this adorable picture of League of Legends champions celebrating the holiday in various ways. Even Baron Nashor showed up to the party!

Some of the standout champions for me are Soraka, Malphite, and Amumu painting eggs, Volibear and Rammus eating decorated hard-boiled eggs together, and Annie offering a flower to Sejuani! Can you identify them all? You get extra credit for knowing the skins some of them are wearing!
